As Executive Director with 38 years of experience in UK and international education. I am delighted to have been invited to be the founding director of Carnelian and to develop a truly unique education system that is based on the science of learning under the inquiry umbrella of the International Baccalaureate (IB).
Where most schools will be knowledge based and exam focused (British and American systems), or they are grounded in discovery learning (IB), we recognize the strengths of both approaches. Our highly trained teachers understand how to build lessons that teach skills and knowledge in a systematic way, constantly checking for understanding and misconceptions and supporting students when gaps appear. Then, and only then, do they train students in how to think, how to question, how to research, and how to present; defending their ideas and assumptions in a way that thoroughly prepares them for university and the wider world.
