Director's Welcome

Welcome to the American International School in Egypt.

Dear AIS - West Family,

I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new Director of AIS-West. It is with great enthusiasm that I embark on this new journey alongside all of you. Being a member of this vibrant community fills me with immense excitement and anticipation. Having spent three rewarding years as the Principal of AIS-West High School, I am deeply committed to advancing our tradition of academic excellence, personal growth, and community engagement.

To our dedicated parents, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for entrusting us with your children’s education and well-being. We recognize the importance of this responsibility and are committed to providing the support, resources, and opportunities that will help your children flourish.

To our students, I eagerly look forward to getting to know each of you, discovering your unique talents, and supporting your aspirations. My door is always open, and I encourage you to share your ideas and feedback. Together, we will strive to create a learning environment that both challenges and inspires.

As we embark on this new school year, I am filled with optimism and enthusiasm. I am excited to work closely with our dedicated faculty, staff, and engaged parent community to continue fostering an environment of outstanding education and a welcoming, supportive atmosphere.

Let us embrace the opportunities this year has in store and work together to achieve great things. I am confident that, united, we will accomplish remarkable success.

Community

We believe that a caring, inclusive, participatory school community is very important for our students and provides opportunities for students to learn skills and develop habits that will benefit them throughout their lives.

At AIS - West we strive to build community by:

Actively cultivating respectful, supportive relationships among students, teachers, and parents.

Supportive relationships are the heart of community. They enable students from diverse backgrounds to bring their personal thoughts, feelings, and experiences into the classroom.

Emphasize common purposes and ideals

Along with academic achievement, schools with a strong sense of community stress the development of qualities essential to good character and citizenship, such as fairness, concern for others, and personal responsibility. Everyone shares an understanding of the school’s values, which then shape daily interactions.

Provide regular opportunities for service and cooperation

Students learn the skills of collaboration, develop wider and richer relationships, and experience the many satisfactions of contributing to the welfare of others.

Academics

At American International School in Egypt - West, we promote the values of curiosity and diligent effort as the keystones of helping students flourish as learners in their pursuit of academic excellence.

Our coursework, from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12, provides meaningful and challenging opportunities for both individual and collective achievement. We empower students with the desire and the means to reach their highest potential. We provide students with want students to be able to take a question that’s really compelling in the world or in their lives, and have many tools with which to answer it.

Students in Grades 11 and 12 will have the option of following the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme®.

Please explore the links to the left to learn more about our programs.

Elementary School

Here at our AIS West Elementary School, we believe academics, social, and emotional development go hand in hand. Using the workshop approach as we learn and teach reading, writing, and mathematics, teachers get to know students more deeply while conferring with them one-on-one or in small groups about their understanding of literacy and mathematics. Our readers and writers workshop model allows us to integrate social studies and sciences into our literacy, and students are given choice and voice throughout their time in the elementary school.

Not only are our academics important to our students’ progress, but their social and emotional well-being is even more so. This is why we have adopted Positive Discipline as our program that teaches important life skills to all our students through respectful, thoughtful, and reflective discussions and solutions. Our Portrait of a Graduate does the same as we talk, model, and act in accordance with those all important attributes we want our learners to embrace: Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-Minded, Caring, Risk-Takers, Balanced, Reflective , Citizenship, Collaboration.

Middle School

At AIS - West, the Middle School continues with the same careful supervision and attention to all areas of student development and learning as does the Elementary School. The curriculum and methodology at these grade levels are designed to meet the needs of students in their transitional phase of emerging adolescence.

The curriculum is designed to match the best practices from American state side school districts, as well as US National standards. Students are taught essential knowledge, skills and understandings. A departmentalized program provides students with an opportunity to learn in interdisciplinary units. Real life application of subject knowledge is accomplished through integrated core curriculum in combination with technology, art, drama, music and physical education with the support of rich library media resources.

The rapid intellectual growth of the pre-adolescence sparks many emotional and social changes. AIS - West's Middle and High School nurtures trusting relationships with adults and peers to create a climate of personal growth for each student. We strive to enable all our students to become successful and confident individuals.

The Middle School at AIS - West is a transition between the Elementary community and the High School model of education. We will work towards easing this transition with communication and care.

High School

At AIS - West, the High School continues with the same careful supervision and attention to all areas of student development and learning as do the Elementary and Middle Schools. The curriculum and methodology at these grade levels are designed to meet the needs of students in their transitional phase of emerging adolescence.

The curriculum is designed to match the best practices of the Common Core from American school districts, as well as US National standards. A departmentalized program provides students with an opportunity to learn in interdisciplinary units. Real life application of subject knowledge is accomplished through integrated core curriculum in combination with technology, art, drama, music and physical education. Student learning becomes an experiential on the Week Without Walls trips; which gives students a variety of opportunities to interact with others culturally, environmentally, or through service projects.
